Judge John William Andre, Jr.
Judge John William Andre, Jr. of Tybee Island died Saturday, November 9, 2013. John was born January 9, 1934 to John and Annie Mae Andre at 312 West Duffy Street. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, John William Andre, III.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Andre, daughter, Angela Waters, granddaughter, Halen Waters, sister, Jeannette Carrigan.
John graduated from Savannah High School in 1952, and joined the United States Navy in October, 1952. He served four years aboard the USS McClelland DE 750 and the USS Matthews AKA 96, and was honorably discharged in October, 1956.
He graduated from Armstrong State College in 1969 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, and from John Marshall Law School in 1973 and was admitted to law practice in 1973.
In 1977 he was elected Chatham County Commissioner for the sixth district, and during his four year term he was appointed to the Metropolitan Planning Commission. In 1985 he was elected Chief Magistrate of Chatham County, Georgia where he served for twenty years. He retired December 31, 2004 and was honored by the Chatham County Commission by declaring December 17, 2004 as Judge John W. Andre, Jr. day. He was proud to have been a member of the Cobra Club.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension, 120 Bull Street, with a Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Carl Yost officiating.
Burial will be private at a later date.
